Ancient Greek

From Proto-Hellenic *hlaďďomai, from Proto-Indo-European *sl̥h₂gʷ-yé-ti, from *sleh₂gʷ-,^[1]^[2] the same root as λαμβάνω (lambánō).

λάζομαι • (lázomai) (Epic, Ionic, Megarian, deponent)

Various alternative forms are attested:

The imperative forms λάζευ (lázeu) and λάζεο (lázeo)
The third person plural λάζοντο (lázonto)
In Epic Greek, the 3rd person plural optative λαζοίατο (lazoíato).
In Doric Greek, the imperative form λάσδεο (lásdeo).
In Boeotian Greek, the infinitive λάδδουσθη (láddousthē).
A Tragic and Comedic form, possibly λάζυμαι (lázumai), can be derived from the attested forms ἐλάζυτο (elázuto), λάζυτο (lázuto), λάζυσθε (lázusthe), λάζυσθαι (lázusthai), λάζυται (lázutai)
