     Wànzhāng wèn yuē: “Rén yǒu yán ‘Yī Yǐn yǐ gēpēng yāo Tāng’, yǒu zhū?” Mèngzǐ yuē: “Fǒu, bùrán […] wú wén qí yǐ Yáo-Shùn zhī dào yāo Tāng, wèi wén yǐ gēpēng yě.” [Pinyin]

     Wan Zhang asked Mencius, saying, 'People say that Yi Yin sought an introduction to Tang by his knowledge of cookery. Was it so?' Mencius replied, 'No, it was not so [...] What I have heard is that Yi Yin sought an introduction to Tang by the doctrines of Yao and Shun, rather than that he did so by his knowledge of cookery.'

     Guān qí suǒ jǔ, huò zài shānlín sǒuzé yánxué zhījiān, huò zài língyǔ yèxiè mòsuǒ zhīzhōng, huò zài gēpēng chúmù fànniú zhī shì, rán míngzhǔ bù xiū qí bēijiàn yě. [Pinyin]

     Suppose we look at the personages [the five rulers] appointed to office. They were found amidst mountains, forests, jungles, swamps, rocks, and caves, or in jails, chains, and bonds, or in the status of a cook, a cattle breeder, and a cowherd. Nevertheless, the intelligent sovereigns, not ashamed of their low and humble origins.
