     Nǚrén yú kǒuzhōng tǔ chū yī nánzǐ, nián kě èrshí sān sì, yì yǐngwù kě'ài. Réng yǔ Yàn xù hánwēn. [Pinyin]

     Then the girl produced from her mouth another young fellow of twenty-three or four, intelligent and chaming, who chatted with Xu Yan about the weather condition.

寒溫

1. (obsolete) to exchange pleasantries

     Xiōngzǐ Jì měi lái bàimù, lüè bù guò shū, shū yì bù hòu. Jì tuō shí guò, zhǐ hánwēn éryǐ. [Pinyin]

     Every time his nephew Ji came to do obeisance at the tomb, he almost never stopped by his uncle's place to pay his respects, and his uncle, for his part, also did not greet him. When on rare occasions Ji did stop by, he only exchanges pleasantries about the weather and nothing more.
