Glyph origin
Ideogrammic compound (會意 / 会意): 石 (“rock”) + abbreviated 得 (“obtain, find”) — a rock obstructing one from getting what one wants.[1] Note that 㝵 is the ancient form of 得, so a direct derivation from 石 + 㝵 may be possible as well, although not supported by Kanjigen.
Definitions
For pronunciation and definitions of 碍 – see 礙 (“to obstruct; to hinder; to block; to deter; obstruction; hindrance”). (This character is the simplified and variant form of 礙). |
