The core division is pykälä, which is contained even in the shortest acts;^[1] large statutes may have higher divisions (parts and chapters).^[2] The hierarchy of the divisions goes, and their names are by convention translated by the Ministry of Justice of Finland, as follows (from the highest division to the lowest):

  osa (“part”) > luku (“chapter”) > pykälä (“section”) > momentti (“subsection”) > kohta (“paragraph”) > alakohta (“subparagraph”)

• (century): While the form 20. vuosisata (“(the) 20th century”) is sometimes used in Finnish, it is now rare and somewhat archaic, and 1900-luku is by far the more commonly used form. While "the 20th century" does not strictly refer to the same period of years as "the 1900s", the former would normally be translated into Finnish as 1900-luku as a matter of course.
