Possibly non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese (shuttle, SV: thoa); as the correspondence between early ‹-oi› vs. late ‹-oa› is also seen in ngói vs. ngoã, the former from Old Chinese (OC *C.ŋʷˤra[j]ʔ), the latter from Middle Chinese (MC ngwaeX).
