Etymology
From the root मुच् (muc) + -ति (-ti), from which also comes the verb मुञ्चति (muñcati, “to loosen, let loose, free”). Related to Lithuanian mùkti (“to be released, to escape”) (1g. munkù, 1sg. past mukaũ).
