     Yuándì hòugōng jì duō, bùdé chángjiàn, nǎi shǐ huàgōng tú xíng, àn tú zhàoxìng zhī. Zhū gōngrén jiē lù huàgōng, duō zhě shí wàn, shào zhě yì bù jiǎn wǔ wàn. Dú Wáng Qiáng bùkěn, suì bùdé jiàn. [Pinyin]

     Since Emperor Yuan of Han had many consorts in his harem and could not visit them all in person, he ordered painters to create their portraits so he could summon women to his favor by referring to the paintings. All the ladies in the palace bribed the painters, with the highest bribes reaching one hundred thousand cash, and even the lowest amounting to no less than fifty thousand. Only Wang Qiang (later known as Zhaojun) refused to offer bribes. Thus, she never gained the emperor's notice.

     Since the rise of the Han dynasty, there have been many instances where minor virtues and small merits were commemorated with portraits and temples. How much more so for Zhuge Liang, whose moral example reached far and wide, whose achievements overshadowed this turbulent era, and who was truly the one relied upon to prevent our royal house from collapse.
