- Xiānshì, rìzhě zòu yì xīng chìsè fàn dìzuò jí, shàng gù yí Qīng. Jí cháo, Qīng dú zhuó fēi, mìng sōu zhī, dé suǒ cáng rèn. Jiézé, Qīng fènqǐ yuē: “Yù wèi gù zhǔ bàochóu ěr!” Shàng nù, mìng zhé yú shì. Qīng màbùjuékǒu ér sǐ. [Pinyin]
- Earlier, the imperial astrologer had reported that an ominous crimson star was rapidly approaching the Emperor's Throne Star [symbolising imperial authority], making the Emperor suspicious of Jing Qing. At the morning court assembly, Qing alone wore the vermilion robes. The Emperor ordered a search, and a hidden blade was discovered on him. When interrogated, Qing defiantly declared: ‘I've been willing to avenge my former emperor!’ Enraged, the Emperor sentenced him to public dismemberment. He kept cursing vehemently until the moment he died.
