Etymology
From Eastern Mnong dak Lak (“Lak Lake”). Spellings with or without the diacritical marks (or even with or without a space) have been found to be inconsistently used by some agencies and institutions (e.g. Nhà khách tỉnh Daklak (“Dak Lak Guest House”)). A spelling without would be more representative of the original pronunciation (as "đác lác", with dak being the Mnong cognate to Vietnamese nác/nước (“water”)), although this spelling here is officially used.
