     This course systematically introduces linguistic knowledge of Hong Kong Cantonese, helping students have a command of the phonological system and know all kinds of vocabulary and grammatical phenomena in Hong Kong Cantonese. At the same time, the course also pays attention to the communicative function of language; in the last two units, it introduces basic conversational expressions for making apologies, requests, etc.

   • Mok等（2013）也對28名香港發音人進行了類似實驗，利用判別分析（predictive discriminant analysis）整理實驗數據、同時計算發音人的反應時間（reaction time），卻沒有發現聲調完全混同的情況，因此Mok等（2013）提出：香港話的發音人依然擁有6個聲調，只是聲調的調域變窄了。 [MSC, trad.]

     Mok děng (2013) yě duì 28 míng Xiānggǎng fāyīnrén jìnxíng le lèisì shíyàn, lìyòng pànbié fēnxī (predictive discriminant analysis) zhěnglǐ shíyàn shùjù, tóngshí jìsuàn fāyīnrén de fǎnyìng shíjiān (reaction time), què méiyǒu fāxiàn shēngdiào wánquán hùntóng de qíngkuàng, yīncǐ Mok děng (2013) tíchū: Xiānggǎnghuà de fāyīnrén yīrán yōngyǒu 6 ge shēngdiào, zhǐshì shēngdiào de diàoyù biàn zhǎi le.      Mok et al. (2013) conducted a similar experiment on 28 speakers from Hong Kong. They used predictive discriminant analysis to analyse the experimental data, and at the same time, they measured the speakers' reaction time, but they did not find that the tones are completely merged. Thus, Mok et al. (2013) noted that speakers of Hong Kong Cantonese still had 6 tones, but it is just that their tonal range has become narrower.

     The Course treats the society of Hong Kong as its foundation, so the wording of example sentences is based on today's Hong Kong Cantonese.

This term is used to distinguish it from other varieties of Cantonese. It is normally simply known as 廣東話／广东话 (gwong2 dung1 waa6-2, “Cantonese”) by its speakers.
