     Fāng guìxiǎn shí, zhì fùguō cháng rěn zhī tián qiān mǔ, hào yuē yìtián, yǐ yǎngjì qúnzú zhī rén. Rì yǒu shí, suì yǒu yī, jià qǔ xiōng zàng jiē yǒu shàn. Zé zú zhī zhǎng ér xián zhě zhǔ qí jì, ér shí qí chūnà yān. [Pinyin]

     After he became a well-known official of high rank, he bought some fertile farmland with stable yields, roughly a thousand mu of it, that lay nearby the city where he took office. He named the land as “Farmland for Charity,” because the yield therefrom was used to provide for his kinfolks in need. It was plenty enough to insure them daily meals and warm clothing for every year, and provide subsidies for families that happened to arrange for a wedding or funeral. Among his kinsmen the esteemed elders were selected to keep the books and regularly calculate the income and expenditure.

     Ránzé yānrén gù wèishǐ bùkě gé yě. Yānrén jì gé, gōngzhōng zhī shì, xuǎn cūjiàn nǚzǐ chōng zhī, yǐ jǐ lìyì, bèi fēicháng. Ruò chūnà mìnglìng, zé yú nèiwài gè shè yī lú, nánzǐ jǐshì yú wài, nǚzǐ jǐshì yú nèi. Yòu yú nèiwài zhījiān, xuǎn guǎfù nián wǔshí liùshí zhě jū zhī, yǐ sī chūnà. [Pinyin]

     Then it can be said that eunuchs are indeed not irreplaceable. Once abolished, palace affairs could be handled by selecting robust women to perform court duties, labour and prepare for emergency. For liaison, separate offices could be established inside and outside the quarters, men serving in the outer office and women innerly. Furthermore, widows aged fifty to sixty could be appointed to convey messages between the inner and outer offices.
