First attested in 840, in Bai Juyi's poem:

素事主十年，凡三千有六百日，巾櫛之間，無違無失。今素貌雖陋，未至衰摧，駱力猶壯，又無虺隤。即駱之力，尚可以代主一步；素之歌，亦可以送主一盃。一旦雙去，有去無迴。 [Literary Chinese, trad.]
